I have a 12 yard ball of lucet-ed (is that a word?) cord. No, I didn't mean to make 12 yards. I just didn't realize how long it had gotten.

Now what the heck do I do with it??

And now for a brief commercial announcement
I taught an 18th century pockets class at Costume College last weekend, and for my students I made a bunch of machine embroidered pocket fronts. The ones I have left are now for sale on my rudimentary little website! Please stop by and take a look. Tell your friends. Due to severe time constraints I probably won't be making any more!

    That old thing?
Some of my favorite costumers have written lately about burn-out and taking a break. Firstly, I say, hear hear, ladies! Costume for yourself, not for others.

I also want to remind these ladies that many of us have NOT seen "that old thing" or want badly to see it again! Remember that every outfit is new to somebody.

Looking forward to seeing ya'll at Costume College. :)

    Mia's French Hood
I've been AWOL from LJ for a while. Not that I haven't been sewing. Just too busy to post anything.

Here's something I finished recently, a French hood for my lovely friend Mia. It's based on the patterns in Tudor Tailor (Mikhaila, Malcom-Davies, 2006). I wanted Mia to have something easy to put on and un-fussy to wear, and the result of this pattern is very hat-like. Looking at portraits of French hoods (courtesy of Kimiko's very thorough website) I noticed that some sitters wore necklaces that matched the billiaments on their hoods. So, I made a matching double-strand necklace for Mia, with a pendant that vaguely approximates a pendant from the period. The end shape of this hood makes me think of the hoods from the 1540s, so I've assigned that decade to it. Mia's excellent gown was made by herself.

The rest of the photos are here.

    "The Ascot Hat"
Hey! I've made some progress. The wonder is as much that I actually took some photos as it is that I actually did anything! But I had to take some photos to show Lynn. Now it just needs trimming up!

    Few more photos.... )

    Who the heck ARE you???
I've been adding people to my friends list that I know but...who may not know me. Don't worry folks! You don't have to friend me back! :) I just want to keep up with what you're doing. I hardly ever post anyway. ;)

On a completely unrelated note: wooohooo! Costume College this weekend!

Uh, yeah, I'm not actually there yet. Long story. I'll be there tomorrow morning.

    The Ascot Hat
Yesterday attended a wire frame hat class with Lynn McMasters. Here's the result. Lynn made the crown while I was futzing with the brim (yeah, it looks a heckuvalot tidier than my brim!) Joiners covered with white out (thanks for the suggestion, Kate).
